Our screening feedback and reflection

The set up went quickly and we made some small adjustments last second to make the people follow the instructions.
We put the chairs in a normal cinema set up because it is a straightforward film.

Most people followed the instruction the coughing and clapping task went well, and most people seemed to do what they were supposed to do.
The timing of the flavor of the gum went away within the film, so when the film as over the gum had lost most of its flavor, which was not necessarily planned but it worked well.
We should probably have done something more for the end of the film to connect everything together. maybe a finishing instruction when the name appairs or the last screen to show that they could go.

Feedback

Screening

Positives

People were impressed with our execution of the screening as we kept it simple.
Most people appreciated the confusion that the instruction created.
People also appreciated the fact that we did not give them too much information because it was only fifteen minutes until the screening.
The simplicity of the intermission made it easy to follow and understand.
Fortune cookie vibe.
Cohesive vibe over the board.
The instructions showed the humorous vibe of the film.
Gum made the film less boring
Nice touch to have the gum as the ticket.
the introduction was well designed, made me wait for something to happen
amazing concept
A great trailer made by Leon and Bradley
Nice simplicity
Made people feel like a part of the film
Immersive feel
Clear connection to the film
liked the interactive part of it

Negatives

Some of the feedback mentioned that we could have had more types of instructions, maybe include speaking or other sounds.
The packaging should be related to the other elements or chewing gum form the 1970s
Some people did not participate.
Could have more variation of the instructions
seating could be played with
a bit distracting
could have all of the audience standing up
more could have been done
people coughed at other times could you have switched the instruction to something that does not naturally happen.

Presentation

Positives

A good explanation of the idea
in the style of the other elements
clear layout

easy to understand
nice hinting to the screening without giving away too much
Not giving away too much was a good idea

Negatives

did not explain the film that well

finalizing screening and poster

Today i have adusted the poster and printed out a new version. thise adjustmens was to make the oppasety to 75% as to make the text to to stand out a bit more. The first print out, was also the wrong version, i guess that i did not go thrugh it thuroghly enough. After the seccond one was printed, i got to know that the printer is broken, so we will take another photo when we can get it printed.

We found out that Sophie is dropping out yesurday, and that put a slight damper on the poster design because i counted on having her feedback on it.

We are making pacets of chewing gum, that i helped wrap and cut when I was done with the poster.

We were intending to present the gum in a bowl, but me and Hannah talked about it a bit and the idea to emulate the old school candy bags from the cinema. Both of us set out to make a bag for it, my attemt was too structured to work as a bag, it worked more as a box, witch we were not after, so we went with Hannah's bag.

Poster development

The initial idea was to make the poster as 16 separate posters that would be placed around the uni, the group did not want to do that, as they thought that it would not be seen. The idea was that it was going to be anonymous but, we had to alter the idea so that everyone would be as happy with it was they could.  So it is now a full poster that would be placed in one place. The initial idea was to build it upon the interview with Liv Siddall and show the fun and whimsical part of the film, that is why the initial idea is built around the basic colors. The second draft was a trial run with just throwing everything at the poster. This was to emulate the fact that you are not quite sure why the movie is made, it is just about creating something with what you have and not everything is like it seems. With the second poster, it is put together with most of the odd elements from the college work.
The feedback that we got from the group for the previous poster was that they did not like that is was made with color, but making it is black and white would lead it to be just one big blob that none would recognize. So instead we paired down the number of elements and created a calmer visual language. To make the poster eye-catching it needed something more to it, so there was just a question of what colors?  the first color was quite easy to figure out, as when you think of gum, you most likely think of pink, so I took to the color wheel to find contrasting colors, then the choice was simple I thought. Green is the contrasting color to pink, and when you think of gum you might also think of green, like eucalyptus or mint. The poster is still a bit busy, it might have been a good idea to  pair it back a bit more.
My group still wanted the black and white design, but hen we had to figure out something new, which we do not have time for. But we spent ages deciding the colors when we finally decided to make it with color. The previous pink was quite bright so that one was an easy fix,  it is now more bubblegum like with the pastel tint. We also decided to make eight A3 instead of 16 A4 posters, so there had to be some rearranging with the poster.

After everyone was ok with the poster, we tried to print it, but when we printed the posters and some of the stuff we needed for the screening the colors were different, that most likely has to do with the fact that we used two different programs, but oh well. during the adjustments, there had also been a snag with the text, as it did no longer say The Girl Chewing Gum, but rather The Girl Chging Gum, so we have to reprint one of the pages. But I got the poster up on the wall for now.

Poster work

The idea of the poster is taken from the idea from the treasure map and instruction idea from the first initial idea, but the group has gone away from the idea of it being placed around the school. This is now just a poster, but we are planning to place it in a slightly invisible place, that people do not think about .The collage work is based on the trip that the movie takes you on, it is confusing and not easy to understand. it is mostly inspired by the reasoning that LIv Siddall had to choose the film. it is fun and playful. The pacing of the extra lig kerning space with the text is done to emulate the speed of the film, it is only 12 minutes long but it is dry and not really engaging. the text is, therefore, a bit difficult to read and a bit of a chore. It resembles the difficulty to finish the film in one sitting also.

The group wanted to keep everything in black and white, but it would not work with the initial idea, so we worked t come up with different ideas. One is based on the fact that everything in the film in the idea of language is the instruction to the entire script is placed around a simple design to emulate the simplicity of the film.

The third idea is based on a simplified version of the initial idea it is just back and white, it is boring and slightly annoying to read, like the move is slightly boring and annoying with the burglar alarm. It is offset, as it is not like it should.
